I have paid $1000 per month for support for the last 5 years and $1300 for child support. My child support is ending in 2 months however I will have to pay not 1000 but 1250 per month after child support ends to my ex-wife who has had a half decade to go to school and improve herself.. As I get older I find myself not as attractive to employers as I was at the height of my career. I now make less than half of what I made when I divorced so the burden of paying 1250 per month is will very likely cause me to live a life of hardship even though I have never been unemployed in 30 years , never lived my life outside my means and will be paying for my daughters college costs at the same time. Minnesota is so out of touch. These spouses must in a reasonable time use their resources to get educated and employed. Alimony forever is quite simply a 1950’s I dream of Jeannie ridiculous notion. For such a progressive state on almost all issues this one is appalling to me and needs reform!
